A Quarter For My Thoughts: Four Impressions on the 4th Quarter

1. Flag ’Em - With a little over five minutes to play, Rutgers has been penalized just once. For a team that was plagued by sloppiness during the start of the year, it is a marked improvement. Perhaps a sign that a young team is coming to turn the corner and find its maturity.

2. Work In Progress - All season long, head coach Greg Schiano said this team was a work in progress. Still true? It’s hard to tell if Rutgers is just that good or South Florida was just that bad. Maybe somewhere in the middle. The important thing is that this team has improved, big-time.

3. Martinek is the Clear #1 - After a workman-like performance, Martinek emerges as the clear starter for this team. While he is still inconsistent, he’s the best Schiano has right now. Interesting that there was no Jourdan Brooks to be found in this game.

4. Recruits Impressed - There was a number of top recruits at the game tonight who had to be impressed with the showing my Greg Schiano’s team. Mammoth lineman Jorge Vicosio was seen after the game, whooping it up on the field.
